Honorary Professor Conferring Ceremony for Congressman Al Green of U.S. House of Representatives was held at BJTU

On April 14th,Congressman Al Green of U.S. House of Representatives, visited Beijing JiaotongUniversity, and attended the Honorary Professor Conferring Ceremony. Mr. CAOGuoyong, Chairman of the University Council, together with Mr. WANG Yongli,Deputy Director-General Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, met withCongressman Al Green.

 
 
 
 
During the meeting, both parties reviewed the processof the construction of Texas Southern University Confucius Institute, and Mr.CAO spoke highly of Congressman Al Green’s contributions to the cultural andeducational exchange between China and U.S. President NING Bin, presented theletter of appointment to Congressman Al Green. The conferring ceremony washosted by Vice President LIU Jun.
 
 
 
 
Mr. Al Green shared with BJTU students and teachershis life experience. He also introduced the proposing process of the ResolutionHonoring the 2560th Anniversary of the Birthof Confucius and how it had been successfully adopted in the U.S. House ofRepresentatives. He said, Confucianism is a philosophy and political ideologythat has deeply influenced, and continues to influence the U. S. and many othercountries all over the world. It has inspired hundreds of thousands ofscholars, including American scholars, who are influenced by Asian culture andConfucianism and contributed to the diversity of American culture. Whereas, theU.S. Congress adopted the resolution honoring the anniversary of the birth ofConfucius in 2009. He also answered the questions raised by the studentaudience. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Meanwhile, Congressman Al Green conferred theCertificate of Special Congressional Recognition to President NING Bin for hisgreat contributions to the cultural and educational exchange between China andU.S. 

On Janaury 3
rd, 2013, Congressman Al Green made the oath to starthis fifth term in the House of Representatives. On October 28th,2009, he had presented the H. Res. 784 for the 2,560thanniversary of the birth of Confucius. He had played an active role inpromoting the establishment of Confucius Institutes in the U.S.
