【词义解释】

人们通常用cold snap、cold wave、cold front、cold spell来表达寒潮。所谓寒潮，是指来自高纬度(high latitude)地区的冷空气(cold air)，在特定的天气形势下迅速加强并向中低纬度地区侵入，造成沿途地区剧烈降温(steep drop in temperatures)、大风和雨雪天气，多发生在秋末、冬季、初春时节。
