北斗卫星导航系统(the Beidou Navigation Satellite System)是中国着眼于国家安全和经济社会发展需要自主建设运行的，可以为全球用户提供全天候(all-weather)、全天时(all-time)、高精度(high-accuracy)的定位(positioning)、导航(navigation)和授时服务(time service)，属于国家重要时空基础设施(Spatio-temporal infrastructure)。2020年6月23日9时43分，我国在四川西昌卫星发射中心(Xichang satellite Launch Center)用长征三号乙运载火箭(CZ-3B)，成功发射北斗系统第五十五颗导航卫星，即北斗三号最后一颗全球组网卫星(Global networking satellite)，至此北斗三号全球卫星导航系统星座部署比原计划提前半年全面完成。

中国高度重视北斗系统建设发展，自 20 世纪 80 年代开始探索适合国情的卫星导航系统发展道路，形成了“三步走”发展战略(Three-step strategy)：2000 年年底，建成北斗一号系统，向中国提供服务；2012 年年底，建成北斗二号系统，向亚太地区提供服务；计划 2020 年前后，建成北斗三号系统，向全球提供服务。2035 年前，将以北斗系统为核心，建设完善更加泛在、更加融合、更加智能的国家综合定位导航授时体系(national comprehensive positioning and navigation timing system)。

目前，全世界一半以上的国家都开始使用北斗系统。后续，中国北斗将持续参与国际卫星导航事务，推进多系统兼容共用，开展国际交流合作，根据世界民众需求推动北斗海外应用，共享北斗最新发展成果。
